Pharmacology & Toxicology HOD'S Profile



Professor Grace Gbotosho was appointed Pioneer Head of the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology, Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Ibadan on the 1st of August 2017.  Prof. Grace Olusola Gbotosho is a graduate of the University of Ife, now Obafemi Awolowo University Ile-Ife where she studied Pharmacy.  She holds a Masters and PhD degree in Pharmacology and Therapeutics from the University of Ibadan, Ibadan, Nigeria.  She is presently a Professor of Pharmacology and Therapeutics at the University of Ibadan, Ibadan where she has been teaching, serving on various University Committees and engaged in active research in the field of Malariology in the last 24 years. 

Her research concentration in Pharmacology focuses on: drug resistance and utilization of pharmacological and biological approaches to understand and overcome resistance to antiparasitic drugs, Pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics as it applies to antimalarial drugs and malaria as a prototype disease. Furthermore, she is devoting efforts to discovery of novel diagnostic techniques that could be useful for point of care diagnosis /epidemiological assessment of infectious diseases. Prof. Grace Gbotosho has published over 90  research papers in her field of study. 

She has spent the last 24 years impacting the lives of students at the University of Ibadan where she teaches Pharmacology to Pharmacy, Medical & Dental students, as well as Nursing and Physiotherapy students.  She has supervised several MSc and PhD students within the institution.  She has served as Consultant to World Health Organization at various International meetings and serves as External Examiner to the Department of Clinical Pharmacology, University of Cape Town South Africa.   Prof. Gbotosho presently serves as the Head of the Malaria Research Laboratories, College of Medicine, and University of Ibadan.  She is also the Director of the Malaria Translational Research Centre and the Deputy Director of the African Centre of Excellence for Genomics of Infectious Diseases.  Prof. Grace Gbotosho is presently a Director on the Thomas Bassir Biomedical Research Foundation.
