30th Anniversary Celebrations

A Goodwill Message from The Dean

Professor Chinedum Peace Babalola

It gladdens my heart a great deal to present my goodwill message towards the celebration of the 30th anniversary of Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Ibadan and I take advantage of this unique opportunity to give thanks to Almighty God for all he has done for the Faculty.

We celebrate the faith of our fathers – the Okpakos, the Fola Tayos and the Akandes and the Olaniyis. Our fathers who started the Pharmacy programme in 1980 saw beyond their generation. We celebrate all the past deans – Professors Olaniyi, Okpako, Jaiyeoba, Itiola and Moody who have taken the Faculty to the height it has attained today.

We celebrate the faith of the pioneer students (the first 25) who took a great risk to enroll into a new programme despite all the challenges. They weathered the storm and today we have amongst them chief executives in various institutions in the health sector, pharma industries, government and other industries amongst others.

We celebrate the College of Medicine, the University, the alumni, our professional colleagues, staff, students, benefactors, friends and well-wishers who have contributed to the 30+ year existence and success of this faculty.

This faculty has produced great professionals and also houses great minds (staff and students who have won laurels, grants, recognitions locally and internationally. Of mention is the recent award received by one of our lecturers, Dr Taiwo Elufioye of department of Pharmacognosy, who is the only female in Sub-Saharan Africa that won the 2014 Elsevier Foundation Awards, among four other women.

This University under various provosts and Vice Chancellors have supported us in getting where we are today. We specially thank the current Vice Chancellor, Professor I. F. Adewole, who as a provost of College of medicine and as a Vice Chancellor has given us autonomy and sustained the autonomy by giving us a pride of place on this campus.

The Faculty still needs more assistance in the area of infrastructure-a proposed built structure that will bring all of us and our activities together, will make a lot of difference.

I commend my predecessor, the immediate past Dean Professor Moody caught the vision of this 30th anniversary celebration and set up a committee since April 2012 with me as the Chairperson and saddled us with this program. I commend all members of the committee as well as co-opted members, staff, students and PANs for working tirelessly.

As we celebrate this anniversary, I hereby highlight my vision and mission for a future faculty and appeal to all within and outside to assist us in achieving these dreams.

Vision: to enhance teaching, learning, research and services in Faculty of Pharmacy, UI to an enviable and recognizable level nationally and internationally.

Mission: to work together with other team members to produce an enabling environment that will educate and produce pharmacists and pharmaceutical scientists who are competent to work to provide medicine-oriented and patients-oriented pharmaceutical care with the goal of enhancing health care.

I congratulate members of the Faculty and pray that God will give us a more glorious and fulfilling future.

Thank you and God bless

Your Dean and friend

Professor Chinedum Peace Babalola, FAS
